Many Americans have a dream. Whether it is to become rich, live a happy life or become something more then their parents. Many individuals may have a dream but the truth is that “only 44 percent… actually achieved the American dream” (Seelye 1).
Gatsby’s dream was for Daisy to tell Tom that she never loved him. One day at a restaurant Daisy told Tom, “I loved him once- but I loved you too” (Fitzgerald 132). This was nice for Gatsby to hear but his whole dream was not fulfilled. Daisy realized that she loved Tom all along and he is the man that she will always want to be with him. As many Americans parts of their dreams are fulfilled but not the whole chunk of meat.
Many are lucky when they are fulfilled to the fullest. Even though it does not say in the book, Gatsby’s father’s dream was to watch his son live a happy life and make a lot of money. This is so, because at the funeral, which only three people had attended, his father was bragging about his son. Nick described Gatsby’s father as having “pride in his son and in his son’s possessions was continually increasing” (Fitzgerald 172). This showed that his father was proud of his son’s accomplishments.
